A National Web Conference on Assessing Patient Health Information Needs for Developing Consumer Health IT Tools

Event Date: May 07, 2015 | 1:30pm – 3:00pm ET

Overall Purpose:

As the development of consumer health IT tools becomes increasingly commonplace, methods for analyzing personal health information management needs must become an embedded component of the design lifecycle. The projects presented in this Web conference discuss the identification of users’ personal health information management practices and the context in which these practices occur to inform the development of consumer health IT tools. The tools discussed were developed to improve communication of safety concerns among hospitalized patients, promote effective management of patients with diabetes, and improve asthma care in children.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explain the information needs of hospitalized patients and their caregivers for informing the development of health IT tools to improve communication of safety concerns to their providers.
  2. Describe key patient preferences related to the quality, context, and methods of receiving care notifications and reminders within two populations; patients with type 2 diabetes, and mothers of children with asthma.
  3. Identify three physical features of patients’ homes that affect personal health information management (PHIM) among adults with diabetes.
