A National Web Conference, E-Prescribing and Medication Management: Current Realities and Future Directions

This web conference is the third and final in a three-part series on the role of health information technology in medication management, from prescribing to adherence. This free 90 minute conference will explore what is known about e-prescribing and medication management systems and suggest future research topics.

Overall Purpose:

Dr. Fischer will present on the value and promise of e-prescribing for patients, providers and pharmacies. He will discuss the direction of e-prescribing within the context of advances, potential pitfalls, and implications for safety, efficiency and cost. He will review existing research and identify key areas for new research. Dr. Carrow will discuss challenges specific to implementing e-prescribing of controlled substances and potential impacts on medication management. He will present findings from a recent survey of physician attitudes toward e-prescribing of controlled substances, as well as plans to combine prescription monitoring and e-prescribing data to measure medication adherence.
