A National Web Conference on Health IT and Underserved Populations

Overall Purpose:

Dr. Gunter began the national Web conference by discussing the challenges of establishing a health information exchange (HIE) in a rural area. She also spoke about efforts to use telemedicine to improve health care in New Mexico. Dr. Gorman presented findings from his AHRQ-funded project, which aimed to improve medication safety for elderly populations in rural areas. Mr. Kravitz concluded the national Web conference by discussing Geisinger Health Systems HIE and some new efforts to improve their HIE in rural Pennsylvania. He also explained how they are incorporating telemedicine into their health care efforts.
