A National Web Conference on Projects to Inform Stage 3 Meaningful Use Requirements through Evidence

Overall Purpose:
The proposed objectives in Stage 3 of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Meaningful Use program aim to improve quality, safety, and efficiency leading to improved health outcomes. Implementation of these Stage 3 measures into electronic health records (EHRs) is expected to improve the quality of patient care. This presentation outlines the findings from recent research that provides evidence to inform the development of the proposed Stage 3 Meaningful Use objectives, and it examines the feasibility of selected proposed objectives related to care coordination, interoperability, and patient and family engagement.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this Web conference, participants should be able to:
- Identify the barriers for practices and hospitals in implementing the proposed Meaningful Use Stage 3 objectives related to care coordination, interoperability, and patient and family engagement.
- Describe two recommended innovations for enhancing the use of EHRs to meet Meaningful Use Stage 3 proposed objectives related to the use of clinical decision support (CDS) tools, specifically provider adherence and addressing alert fatigue.
- Discuss successful strategies for using EHRs to meet Meaningful Use Stage 3 care coordination objectives in primary care practices.
