Role of Health IT to Improve Medication Management
Note: The full description of Dr. Margie Snyder’s project is pending publication in a peer-reviewed journal; her discussion and results will be posted following the journal release.
AHRQ hosted a webinar to discuss the potential of health IT to improve medication monitoring, adherence, and medication therapy management for patients with complex conditions. Presenters discussed a text messaging system for patients with chronic conditions, the effects of a smart pillbox intervention on patient medication adherence after hospital discharge, and recommendations for clinical decision support used by community pharmacists delivering medication therapy management.
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants should be able to:
- Explain the benefits and challenges for using reinforcement learning-guided text messaging to impact medication adherence.
- Discuss the evaluation of a smart pillbox used by patients during care transitions.
- Describe the extent to which clinical decision support for community pharmacist-delivered medication therapy management (MTM CDS) aligns with established human factors principles.
- Discuss the usability and usefulness of MTM CDS for community pharmacists.
