Developed a detailed plan for the implementation and support of informatics tools in regional health centers including the creation of informatics tools to manage institutional surgical care information, creation of a multi-institutional partnership to manage both the informatics and surgical quality improvement programs, and the development of an economic model related to the business and safety benefits.

This project designed and tested a smartphone patient application to detect vascular surgical site infections and found that it allowed for early detection and was easy to use.

This research designed, built, and implemented a platform-independent perioperative clinical decision support that interfaces with existing electronic health records, finding that the tool improved efficiency while receiving high usability ratings from clinicians.

The research team developed and tested algorithms that can predict postoperative adverse outcomes with a high degree of accuracy.

This research worked with orthopedic surgeons and their patients on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and found that patients prefer simple tools around individualized goals; that text reminders improve response rates for PROMs; and that, while surgeons perceive that aggregate PROMs reports have value, provision of performance comparison reports did not improve outcomes over a 5-month period.
