James Swiger, M.B.E.

James Swiger, M.B.E., is a Biomedical Engineer and Health Scientist Administrator in the Division of Digital Healthcare Research in the Center for Evidence and Practice Improvement (CEPI) at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) where he serves as a Program Official on digital healthcare research projects.

Prior to joining AHRQ, Mr. Swiger worked at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH). At CDRH, he was a Deputy Division Director in the Medical Product Safety Network (MedSun), a program that collaborated with a volunteer network of hospitals nationwide to identify, understand and solve problems with the use of medical devices through a customized health IT platform. He was also a lead reviewer for pre-market orthopedic and spine implant submissions and served as a project manager for professional development initiatives in the CDRH's Office of Product Evaluation and Quality. Prior to FDA, he was a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Swiger received his Bachelor and Master of Biomedical Engineering degrees from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.
