Maria Michaels, M.B.A., PMP
Maria Michaels, M.B.A, PMP is a Special Expert for Digital Health in the Division of Digital Healthcare Research (DHR) in the Center for Evidence and Practice Improvement (CEPI) at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), using technology to transform data into action in healthcare and public health.
Prior to joining AHRQ, Maria was Senior Public Health Advisor and Health Scientist in Informatics at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). At CDC, she led multiple national and international initiatives, including to redesign guideline development and implementation to co-develop computable and narrative clinical guidelines, automate data exchange, and support multiple levels of learning health systems. Prior to CDC, she directed the Meaningful Use Program at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center (VCUMC), served as technical lead for HITECH clinical quality measure policy and operations at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), led a team that helped stand up the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI’s) Cancer Human Biobank (CaHUB), and managed a cancer research program at the Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
