Steve Bernstein, B.S.
Steve Bernstein is a Senior Advisor for health information technology (IT) and a Project Officer in the Division of Digital Healthcare Research in the Center for Evidence and Practice Improvement at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality for various Agency Clinical Informatics grants, contracts and other health IT initiatives, including evaluating use of Clinical Decision Support, artificial intelligence, and other tools to improve healthcare. Mr. Bernstein also is directing the AHRQ evidence-based Care Transformation Support (ACTS) initiative. Mr. Bernstein previously served as AHRQ's Chief Information Officer (CIO) and was the Project Officer for the National Resource Center for Health IT. In addition, Mr. Bernstein was responsible for the development and operations of websites, extranets and other platforms to support information-sharing, collaboration, and knowledge management for the nationwide Practice-Based Research Networks, Prescription for Health, US Health Information Knowledgebase, and other agency digital health initiatives. As CIO, Mr. Bernstein provided for the upgrade and management of the Agency's state-of-the-art IT infrastructure, information systems, intranet, email, LAN, WAN, secure intramural network, secure data center, and information security.
Prior to working at AHRQ, Mr. Bernstein was a Director of Information Systems for Logistics and Fleet Support with the Department of Navy’s Naval Air Systems Command where he managed numerous large-scale IT military programs, data warehouses, and information systems. Mr. Bernstein graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Engineering and Operations Research with a focus on Computer Science.
